New for 2026

Our weekly exercise classes are getting a fresh new look! Every two months, we’ll host a masterclass focused on a hot multiple sclerosis (MS) topic, which will then flow into an eight-week specialised programme. Kicking things off in January, our first masterclass takes place on Friday 09 January will focus on the essential topic of posture and core, setting the foundation for the weeks ahead.

Every eight weeks, these specialised classes explore a new topic commonly experienced by people with MS. The program offers live online sessions designed specifically to help individuals with MS build core strength, improve posture, and enhance functional mobility. Classes are held twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with each 30-minute session providing focused, manageable exercises from the comfort and safety of your own home. This online format respects energy levels and accommodates the varying needs of participants, creating a safe, supportive, and accessible environment for everyone.

Class levels

Level 1 (11:30 – 12pm) – Seated upper body and trunk exercises

This fully seated class focuses on developing core stability, postural awareness, and upper body strength from a supported position. Exercises target the abdominal muscles, back extensors, shoulder girdle, and postural muscles while remaining safely seated throughout. This format is ideal for those with balance concerns, fatigue management needs, or lower mobility levels. Exercises include seated rotations, pelvic tilts, upper body alignment work, arm movements, and breathing techniques that support core engagement.

Level 2 (12:15 – 12:45pm) – Seated and standing exercises

This class combines seated and standing exercises to build lower body strength, balance, and functional movement patterns. Participants will work on leg strength, hip stability, and weight-bearing activities that support daily living tasks. The seated portions provide rest intervals and ensure accessibility, while standing exercises (with a chair for support) challenge balance and build confidence in upright positions. Focus areas include sit-to-stand transitions, supported squats, leg lifts, and ankle mobility

Level 3 (1:00 – 1:30pm) – Whole body conditioning class

This comprehensive class integrates upper body, trunk, and lower body exercises for participants ready for a full-body challenge. Combining elements from both Level 1 and Level 2, this class offers standing and seated exercises that work multiple muscle groups, improve overall functional fitness, and enhance coordination. Participants will experience a balanced workout that develops total body strength, postural control, and movement confidence.

You’re welcome to attend multiple sessions in a day! For more info or to register, email register@ms-uk.org.

Weekly class focus

Each week, the program uses a different approach, alternating between mobility and engagement, bodyweight, dumbbell/free weight, and resistance band exercises, with each targeting different aspects of strength and movement. Equipment is optional, as all exercises can be easily modified, allowing participants to practice, progress, and reinforce skills over time.

What equipment will you need?

You’ll need a sturdy chair with a firm seat and back support, such as a dining chair, and a clear space around it for safe movement, along with a water bottle and comfortable exercise clothing. Optional items include a cushion for extra back support, an exercise mat if moving to the floor (or exercises can be adapted to stay seated), and a towel for comfort or as a stretching aid. Having these items ready will help ensure a safe and comfortable exercise experience.
