Volunteering is different for everyone. Some people love to be cheering on our fundraisers at a national event. Others enjoy coming into the the MS-UK offices and supporting us behind the scenes. Whatever way you want to volunteer, take a look at our opportunities to get involved below…

Peer Supporter

Volunteer role: Peer Supporter

Location: Remote/ online via Zoom

Responsible to: Peer Support Coordinator

Hours: At least one session per week for approximately one hour

Purpose of the role

To support the Peer Support Coordinator in the development and implementation of the MS-UK Peer Support service.

Key tasks

  • To facilitate regular online peer support sessions via Zoom
  • To provide a welcoming and supportive space for those who support a loved one living with MS to connect and socialise online
  • To be a listening ear and signpost to other MS-UK services when applicable
  • To record attendance of each session in order to monitor outcomes
  • To liaise with Peer Support Coordinator with regards to any feedback received
  • To attend a monthly group session with the Peer Support Coordinator to share experiences/ suggestions/ feedback etc.
  • To ensure that all interactions are in keeping with MS-UK’s brand and values

Key skills

  • Ability to deal with the general public in a professional manner
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills
  • A willingness to undertake relevant training
  • To be punctual, reliable and committed to volunteering
  • Polite and courteous and treats all people with respect
  • To show compassion and non-judgement

Other

You must comply with our internal policies and procedures eg. Data Protection/ Safeguarding etc.

MS-UK Community Champion

We are looking to welcome volunteers to join MS-UK’s first volunteer fundraising group and to become MS-UK’s Community Champions!

As a Community Champion, you will be responsible for distributing and monitoring five collection pots in your local area, and maintaining relationships with venues that agree to hold our collection tins. We are seeking volunteers who are passionate about our work to support people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with the general public in a professional manner.

Our Community Champions are such valuable assets to MS-UK.

What’s involved?

As a Community Champion, you can volunteer as much or little time as you like! We ask that you take a minimum of five collection tins to distribute in your local area, but if you feel that you have time to manage more collection tins then that would be fantastic!

You will be making a valuable contribution to MS-UK and helping to support anyone affected by multiple sclerosis…

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Managing a minimum of five collection tins in your local area
  • Seeking locations for potential venues to hold a money tins for MS-UK (shops / pubs / local businesses)
  • Building and maintaining relationships with these venues
  • Changing the collection pots every two months
  • Ensuring that each venue has signed the relevant permission forms
  • Counting and paying in funds from collection pots to MS-UK
  • Thanking venues accordingly and presenting with certificates

In return we will support you every step of the way to have an amazing volunteering experience. You’ll get a full induction, support and training, regular e-newsletters from MS-UK and we will reimburse agreed out-of-pocket expenses.

Volunteer cheer squad member – fundraising

As part of the fundraising cheer squad, you’ll attend events and support our dedicated fundraisers who are running or cycling in aid of MS-UK!

From the Virgin Money London Marathon to the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, MS-UK has teams in national sporting events throughout the year that you can support.

We are looking for enthusiasm, a fantastic cheering approach and lots of energy. You will be the eyes and ears of MS-UK on event days, spotting our fundraisers and giving them much needed encouragement. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with the general public in a professional manner. Full briefings for each event will be given, and you can volunteer as much as you feel able to.
