Pain Booklet Cover

We’ve launched our revised MS-UK Choices Pain booklet!

We are proud to announce the release of our revamped Choices booklet that provides information on Pain and its relationship with MS. The MS-UK ethos, which is to facilitate choice and to ensure that people living with MS can live independent lives, being able to make choices that suit them as an individual, was central to us in the production of this booklet.

Approximately two-thirds of people with MS experience pain as some stage and it can have an enormous impact on their daily lives, with relationships, at work and leisure, their mood and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Pain associated with MS can be difficult to manage and may persist for a long time. For some people it can be continuous at a low intensity and for others it can be more severe. It can come and go over the course of a few weeks, or it can vary throughout the day.

No two people will experience pain in the same way, and so an understanding of how it is affecting the individual is reliant on the person’s ability to describe the pain they are feeling. This is important when speaking to health professionals as it helps them to pinpoint the source of pain and identify appropriate treatments.

Our revised Choices – Pain booklet takes a deeper look at pain and its relationship with MS, including a summary of the different types of pain, medications and therapies that can be used to manage its impact.

New to the booklet for 2023 includes information about the different types of electronic apps and online programs which are becoming an increasingly popular tool to manage the impact of pain and a section that offers guidance about describing pain, which can be supported by keeping a pain diary

As with all of our Choices range, we have consulted the wider MS community in the making of this booklet which has helped us shape the content. Therefore throughout, you will find quotes, tips and words of wisdom from people affected by MS.

In summary, this revised booklet is designed to provide comprehensive information about Pain and how it impacts people with MS, including trusted guidance about the different ways this can be managed and signposting to further information and support.
