Read about how Chelsea used her passion for roller skating to raise money for MS-UK

I first came across MS-UK on Instagram when doing a little research and looking for tagged profiles of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). I wanted to learn more about the condition to better understand my boyfriend’s health and wellbeing, listening and reading people’s experiences and how I can help him more in our new life together. I’m all about statistics and facts, so MS-UK’s information and reading materials were really insightful without being overwhelming. It’s so uplifting to see the work they do, especially their counselling and support, which I had no idea was available until I saw their accessible event in July, My MS Marathon, on Instagram.

I myself, began roller skating in April so I knew this was something I just had to do. I’ve never participated in a marathon of any kind before, but I was so excited to set up a JustGiving page, build a profile and share with friends, family, co-workers and even supporters of MS-UK who have read about my challenge on X (formerly known as Twitter). They’ve all been so generous and supportive. I’ve even skated live on Instagram a few times and it’s been a laugh (albeit a little wobbly!). It’s certainly opened some really interesting dialogue with people about how MS has affected their own life, or the life of someone they love. My partner has really opened up when talking about MS all because of participation in the marathon and showing how important it is to me. MS-UK have communicated and encouraged me all the way and I’m so honoured I’m able to do this to raise money and awareness.

So far, I’ve raised £320 which I’m so grateful for and I encourage anyone thinking about the accessible marathon to just go for it! You don’t even have to step outside of your comfort zone.
