Bailey, Nala and Kodi take on the Big Purple Dog Walk

Anjali Silver-Vadgama is set to take on the Big Purple Dog Walk this March for MS-UK!

Every Sunday in March, I’m going to be walking at least 5,000 steps for the Big Purple Dog Walk with my three dogs, Bailey, a whippet/collie cross, and Nala and Kodi who are chow chow/mastiff crosses. Kodi is Nala’s nephew.

We live near the Twywell Hills and Dales in East Northamptonshire. My wife Asha and I often walk the dogs there at the weekends. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in February 2019, but as I use a walking stick, and sometimes a wheelchair, we wouldn’t usually walk so far in one go. If we do half the amount, I come home and chill out on the sofa for the rest of the afternoon.

There are 16 trials on the dales so I must take my time walking. Generally, the dogs run off in front but come back and check on me, so they have a great time.

I can’t push myself too hard as I’m not able to restart my usual MS treatment until mid-April. I’ve been on a different drug for the last year because my wife and I are trying for a baby and the fertility treatment I’m on means I’ve been on a weekly injectable medication. Thankfully the medical board have decided I can go back on my usual drug and carry on with the fertility planning.
