That’s why MS-UK has created a directory of fully qualified, registered counsellors who have all undertaken our MS Awareness and Counselling People with Multiple Sclerosis eLearning courses. This means that all the counsellors listed below already understand multiple sclerosis (MS) well and you won’t have to spend time explaining.
These counsellors offer telephone or online counselling and some also provide face-to-face sessions depending on where you live. Each counsellor has stated their experience and costs within the directory which is available to view below. This is a UK wide Community Interest Company (CIC) which has been set up to provide people access to low-cost counselling. Costs are driven by the individual’s ability to pay which means they are proportionate and fair to everyone.
The Brain Charity offer counselling to those living with a neurological condition, which includes family members of those directly affected. They are based in Liverpool however they can provide counselling via remote means such as the video app Zoom.
You can access MS specific counselling via the Neuro Therapy Network Centres (formerly MS Therapy Centres). These are a network of centres that are scattered around the UK which provide access to a wide range of therapies that are designed to help us manage the impact of MS at an affordable level (some do provide access to counselling).
This is an organisation that specialises in providing access to counsellors and psychotherapists for adults with disabilities and their families, specifically those with experience of MS. It is possible they may be able to secure NHS funding to cover the cost of your sessions. Please see their referral form linked below and mention MS-UK when completing.
This private entity’s goal is to match people with trained therapists who can offer therapies that are right for each individual. Their therapist matching service can be accessed online with telephone support available if needed. The TherapyFinders website also provides access to a live emotional first aid chat option which allows you to connect to a trained therapist in confidence.
There are several online directories where you can search for a private counsellor. Their databases are searchable using location and keywords to help you filter down the results appropriately.
