Friday 17 November, 10:00am – 11:30am
As part of MS-UK’s work to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis (MS), we are offering a FREE online MS Awareness session for housing related support professionals.
Did you know that MS is the most common disabling neurological condition in young adults? It is estimated that there are over 130,000 people in the UK who have MS.
MS-UK know that housing related support plays a huge role in universal personalised care services across health and social care, and we want to help raise awareness of MS with your teams.
As well as having potential to impact on mobility and coordination, MS symptoms are often ‘invisible’ and can impact on aspects of daily living, employment, meaningful activities, overall wellbeing and independence.
Nearly three quarters of respondents to a 2018 MS-UK survey told us that they have experienced issues relating to loneliness and isolation. People living with MS also have higher rates of anxiety and depression than the general population.
Combine all these social, physical, and mental health factors along with the limited availability of accessible housing and it highlights why people with MS may need support from housing related support services.
The session is open to housing related support professionals or volunteers who may be helping people with multiple sclerosis. Please share with any colleagues who you think may be interested.
The session will touch on:
‘My biggest take away was being provided with such a detailed insight into MS and all the tools needed to signpost a client with MS’
‘Fantastic informative session pitched at just the right level with plenty of helpful practical ideas to implement into our services’
‘Exceptional webinar for anyone who has basic knowledge of MS. By far the most informative webinar I have attended all year, from overview of MS, possible causes, different stages of MS, symptoms, myth busting as well as support options available throughout individual health journeys. Cannot recommend enough!!’
All our work is driven by our organisational values and includes real voices of people living with MS. This session will be delivered by a member of our team in partnership with a volunteer with lived experience of MS.
Don’t worry if you can’t attend – we will be recording the session and sending it out to all those that register.
Although this session is free, donations to support MS-UK’s future work are gratefully received.
